Fishing Techniques
Gear should be light weight to detect hits and experience every bit of the spirited fight. Rods in the zero to four weight category with floating line and extra fine tippet will provide the most exhilarating pursuit.
Flies should range in sizes of 22 to 12 and feature good flotation. Anglers should watch out for “false takes”. This is a situation where a Grayling will make an initial strike that misses the mark followed by the real deal a second later. It is common for inexperienced anglers to hookset on the first approach and loose their fish.
Angling for Grayling is a unique and exclusive opportunity. These fish are tremendously sensitive to their surroundings and subsequently have a strict catch and release order. Special care and attention should go towards water temperature, fish handling, and duration of fishing to ensure the maintenance and conservation of such a special species.
Fishers should be equipped with the proper tackles. There are several fishing tackle assortments. Every angler must be supplied by at least a hook, bait, and fishing line.
Originating in Montana, this fly represents a routine mayfly construction with some added flair. The unique purple body section provides a great low-light target while the bright white parachute helps anglers keep track on turbulent drifts. This fly also looks great pinned to your hat after a long day on the water.
